Reverse Text Generator
Six Ways, Not One

This reverse text generator flips text six ways: a whole string, the order of the words, the letters inside each word, or the lines themselves. It also writes upside-down and mirrored text that you can paste anywhere.

Upside-down and mirrored modes use real Unicode letters, so you can paste the result anywhere text goes.

Ready. Pick a mode and start typing.

Your browser does all of the work here, in this tab. We upload nothing, store nothing and log nothing.
The short version

Six Meanings Of One Word

Ask six people to reverse a sentence and you get six results. One reads it from the last character to the first, another keeps the words and flips their order, and a third spells each word backwards where it stands.

All three are correct, so this page offers all of them plus three more. Pick the mode from the menu and the result updates as you type.

The upside-down and mirrored modes are different in kind. Rather than moving characters around, they swap each letter for a Unicode character that looks like it rotated or reflected.

Whichever mode you pick, the hard part is the same. A reverse text generator has to know where one character ends and the next begins, and in modern text that question has a long answer.

The Reason Other Reversers Mangle Emoji

A JavaScript string is a list of UTF-16 code units, not a list of characters. An emoji takes two of those units, and a flag takes four, so splitting on an empty string cuts them in half.

The text, mirrored.

Consequently the usual one-line reverse turns a family emoji into three pieces of rubbish and moves an accent onto the wrong letter. You have probably seen the result on other sites.

This tool splits by grapheme instead, which is what a reader calls a character. Because of that, accents stay on their letters, joined emoji stay joined, and a flag remains a flag.

The Unicode Trick Behind Upside-Down Text

There is no rotate button in plain text. Instead, Unicode happens to contain letters from other alphabets that look like rotated Latin ones, such as ɐ for a and ǝ for e.

Every letter in the opposite order.

So the generator swaps each letter for its lookalike and then reverses the order, since a rotated line also runs the other way. The output is ordinary text, which is why it survives a paste into a profile field.

Deciding What a Single Character Is

Unicode calls it a grapheme cluster: what a reader points at and calls a character. An accented letter can run to two code points, a flag takes two, and a family emoji can run to seven joined together.

The rules live in Unicode Standard Annex 29, which browsers now implement through Intl.Segmenter. This page uses that, and falls back to its own splitter on older browsers.

So the test for any reverse text generator is simple. Paste an emoji and an accented word. If either one comes back broken, the tool is splitting code units rather than characters.

Backwards Text Offers No Real Secrecy

People sometimes reverse a word to hide it: a coupon, a spoiler, an answer key. Anyone can read it back in a second, and a search engine can match it in less.

Use it for puzzles and tests, then. For anything that genuinely must stay private, reversing is the wrong tool entirely.

Places to Avoid Flipped Text

Screen readers announce these substitutes as unrelated characters or skip them entirely. Therefore keep flipped and mirrored text out of headings, link text and anything a search engine should match.

How it works

Working With the Reverse Text Generator

Three steps, though you can skip the last. Meanwhile the result rewrites itself on every keystroke.

  • 1

Enter or paste the text to flip

Anything goes in the left box: a word, a paragraph, a list of lines. Nothing is sent anywhere, so a private draft is safe here.

  • 2

    Choose what to reverse

The menu holds all six modes. For example, The order of the words keeps every word spelled correctly and only moves them.

  • 3

    Tune the two switches

Keep each line on its own line stops a multi-line block collapsing into one. The case switch puts capitals back where they started.

  • 4

Copy, download or send it back

Copy the result, save it as a text file, or press Move result to the left and reverse it again to check that you land where you began.

Why this one

What Makes This Reverse Text Tool Different

It all comes down to how the text gets split into pieces. Those details are exactly where other reversers go wrong.

  • Emoji survive intact

Joined emoji, flags and skin tone modifiers each count as one character here, so nothing comes back as a row of broken squares.

  • Accent marks remain attached to the right letters

A combining accent belongs to the letter before it. Because they travel together here, café reverses to éfac rather than something stranger.

  • Six modes, one page

Characters, words, letters within words, lines, upside down and mirrored. No reloading between them and no second tab.

  • Line breaks are yours to keep

A list of names keeps its line breaks. Untick the switch and the whole block reverses as one, which is what a single sentence usually wants.

  • Capitals, optionally preserved

Turn on the case switch and Hello World becomes Dlrow Olleh instead of dlroW olleH. Small detail, frequently wanted.

  • Nothing leaves your tab

Your browser handles each flip on its own. Since the page sends no text anywhere, this site has nothing to store and nothing to log.

Good habits

When Reversed Text Helps, And When It Hurts

Reversed text is a novelty with a few genuinely practical uses. Telling them apart now spares you an awkward chat later.

  • Rely on it to test how software copes with odd text. A backwards text generator is a quick way to see whether a form, a font or a database column copes with odd characters. Better you than a real user.
  • Keep it out of anything indexed. A search engine cannot match ʇxǝʇ to text. So a flipped page title costs you the traffic the page would otherwise have earned.
  • Avoid it in link text. Links are read aloud out of context by screen reader users. A mirrored link name is unreadable in that list, and nobody will ask you why.
  • Check it in the destination first. Some apps normalise text on save and turn the substitutes back into plain letters. Paste a short test before you build a whole bio around it.
  • Prefer word order for puzzles. If you are making a word game or a quiz, reversing word order keeps every word readable while still hiding the sentence.
  • Keep in mind that flipped text hides nothing. Backwards text makes a ten-second puzzle, not a secret. Never use it to hide an address, a coupon code or anything that matters.
  • Reverse the lines, not the letters, for lists. A list in the wrong order needs the line mode. Reversing characters would spell every name backwards as well, which is almost never what anyone wants.
  • Save the unflipped version too. Most modes undo themselves, yet the flipped one drops any letter that has no lookalike. So paste from a copy rather than from the result.
Worth avoiding

Three Mistakes With Backwards Text

These three come up constantly, and each one is easy to avoid once you have seen it happen.

  • Flipping a page title

Flipped text grabs the eye in a feed. However, the title is what a search result shows, and no one searches for characters that only resemble letters.

  • Reversing code or addresses

Brackets and slashes reverse too, so the result is no longer valid. Use a proper tool if you need to transform code.

  • Assuming every app shows it

Older systems draw a box instead of the substitute character. Therefore test the exact place the text will live before committing to it.

  • Reversing a whole block by accident

Untick the line switch and a ten-line list becomes one long line. Turn it back on and each line reverses inside itself, which is usually the goal.

  • Mixing flipped text into a form field

Some forms reject characters outside a narrow range, and others store them and then fail to search them. Both happen quietly, after you save.

  • Forgetting that reading order still applies

Upside-down text reads from the other end. So a phone number or a date can come out looking right and meaning something else entirely.

Questions

Reverse Text Questions People Ask

Does this reverse text generator handle emoji correctly?

Yes. It splits characters the way a reader sees them, so joined emoji, flags and accented letters come back whole rather than in broken pieces.

How do I get upside-down text I can paste on social media?

Choose Upside down from the menu and copy the result. It is plain text made of Unicode lookalikes, so it survives a paste into most profile and caption fields.

How do mirrored and upside-down text differ?

Upside down rotates the line by 180 degrees, so it also reads right to left. Mirrored reflects each letter as in a mirror while the order stays as you typed it.

Can I reverse only the word order?

Yes, and it is the most useful mode for puzzles. Every word keeps its spelling while the sentence runs backwards, which stays readable at a glance.

Can I use a reverse text generator on code?

You can, though the result rarely helps. Brackets, quotes and slashes all swap ends, so the snippet stops being valid the moment it flips.

Why does the word order mode leave punctuation behind?

Because it moves whole words and keeps the spaces between them. A comma travels with the word it follows, which keeps the line readable rather than tidy.

Will reversed text hurt my SEO?

It will if you put it anywhere that matters, such as a title, a heading or link text. In body copy that nobody needs to find, it costs you nothing.

Why do letters like o and x look unchanged after flipping?

Because no rotated lookalike exists for them in Unicode. The tool leaves those letters alone rather than dropping them, so the word stays readable even when the effect is imperfect.

Can I reverse a list of lines without touching the words?

Yes. Pick the line mode, which stacks your lines in the opposite order and changes nothing inside them. It is the mode people want for rankings and timelines.

Does the tool work on Arabic or Urdu text?

It reverses the characters correctly, though right-to-left text has its own display rules, so the result can look surprising. Test the flipped text in Instagram or WhatsApp first.

Does the text I paste into this Denwix tool leave my browser?

No. You reverse text online here, yet the whole tool runs in your own tab. Nothing reaches this site, nothing lands in a log, and closing the tab clears it.
