What These Website Tools Do

A website has two parts: the code a browser downloads, and the server that sends it. These website tools look after both. First, the minifiers make HTML, CSS and JavaScript smaller, and the unused CSS finder shows the rules a website never uses.

Then the validators and testers catch mistakes before visitors do. For example, the CSS validator, the JavaScript validator and the regex tester each point at the exact problem. The code beautifier and highlighter make code easy to read again.

On the server side, these website tools check SSL certificates, DNS records, HTTP headers and status codes. So when a website is slow or broken, you can see why in a minute. In addition, the hosting checker tells you which company hosts any website.

Where should you start? If a website feels slow, open the unused CSS finder first, because unused rules are often the biggest waste. Then minify what is left and check that the server compresses it. If a page shows an error instead, the HTTP status code checker and the redirect tools tell you what the server answered.

Most of these website tools need nothing but the code or an address. So you can check a site you are building, a client's site or a competitor's, and nobody gets a message about it. The results stay on your screen until you close the tab.

Site and server tools

The questions you ask when a site is misbehaving and you do not know why.

  • SSL Checker

Read a live certificate: expiry, days left, name cover and whether browsers actually trust it.

  • Domain Age Checker

Read the registration date, the expiry and the registrar for any domain. In other words, straight from the registry.

  • DNS Records Checker

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS and SOA read live, each with its TTL in plain words.

  • Website Hosting Checker

Find who hosts any site, plus its CDN, server, SSL and domain age.

  • HTTP Header Checker

Eight security headers, compression and caching graded, and then the lines that fix them for your server.

  • IP Subnet Calculator

Network, broadcast, usable hosts and both masks for any IPv4 or IPv6 range, plus a split into smaller subnets.

  • What Is My IP

Your public address and its reverse DNS name, together with everything your browser tells the sites you visit.

  • DMARC and SPF Record Generator

Tick your mail services and pick a policy; both records are built and checked for the mistakes that break email.

Code and web tools

Minify, validate, beautify and test the code behind a page. Nothing is uploaded.

  • JavaScript Minifier

Strip the comments and spacing out of a script, and check the result still matches your code.

  • JavaScript Obfuscator

Rename names, hide strings and encode numbers so a script is hard to read. Each run re-parses its own output.

  • JavaScript Validator

Read a script and name the first syntax error. You also get the line and the column it stopped on.

  • CSS Minifier

Shrink a stylesheet without breaking calc() or your selectors. Each run double-checks its own result.

  • CSS Validator

Read a stylesheet and list every fault with its line. Unknown properties, bad values and stray braces are all named.

  • HTML Minifier

Shrink your markup without running your words together or flattening a pre block.

  • Gzip Compressor

Pack text or a file into gzip, zlib or raw deflate. You also get the new size and the saving beside it.

  • Code Beautifier

Reindent Java, C, C++, ActionScript or a crontab, and get the line number of any brace that does not balance.

  • Syntax Highlighter

Colour a listing in twelve languages. Then copy it out as escaped HTML, a word processor block, plain text or the stylesheet alone.

  • Regex Tester

Finally, test a regular expression, see every match and copy it as code.

  • CSS Selector Tester

Run a CSS selector on your own markup, read it in plain English and score it against a rival.

  • CSS Preprocessor Converter

Paste SCSS, Less or Stylus and take away plain CSS. Or paste flat CSS and get it back nested, with the repeated values pulled up as variables.

  • curl Converter

Then paste a curl command copied out of devtools and take the same request away as PHP, Python, JavaScript, Go or raw HTTP.

  • User Agent Parser

Also read any browser string and name its browser, system, device and bot.

  • Screen Resolution Checker

Read your screen size, viewport, device pixel ratio, aspect ratio, pixel density and refresh rate.

Questions about these website tools

Are these website tools free to use?

Yes. Every website tool here is free, with no sign-up and no watermark on what you copy.

Is my code uploaded anywhere?

No. The minifiers and validators run in your browser. Only the server checks fetch a website, and only the one you type.

Which tools help a slow website?

Start with the unused CSS finder and the minifiers. After that, check the headers for caching and compression.

Can I check a website I do not own?

Yes. The server checks read only public information, such as SSL, DNS and headers, which any browser can see.

Can I check a website before it goes live?

Yes. Paste the code into the minifiers and validators. The server checks need a public address, so they work once the site is online.

Do the minifiers change how my site looks?

No. They only remove spaces, comments and other bytes a browser does not need, so the page looks the same.

How often should I run these checks?

Run them after each big change, and once a month for the SSL and header checks.
